The Yamaha MT-15 was developed by Yamaha as part of its “Master of Torque” (MT) lineup, designed to bring the aggressive styling and sporty performance of the larger MT models into a lightweight, affordable motorcycle for everyday riders. Introduced in 2018, the MT-15 was based on the same platform as the Yamaha YZF-R15, sharing its advanced 155cc liquid-cooled engine with Variable Valve Actuation (VVA), while adopting an upright riding position and muscular naked-bike design. Yamaha created the MT-15 to appeal to younger riders who wanted the performance of a sportbike combined with the comfort and practicality of a street-focused motorcycle, making it one of the most popular entry-level naked bikes in many Asian markets.
